Burning Questions Answered Here

What do we do when we arrive?

On your first session, you will come up and over the mezzanine to drop your child into class. Your child will be asked to come and sit on the mats with the other children in the group.  Once the register has been taken the session will begin. A coach will make sure we have to correct contact details for you before you go. Always arrive a few minutes before your class start time to ensure your child has been to the loo.

How do the session’s work?

Preschool classes start with a warm up followed by the use of hand apparatus to assist with stretches and body shapes. Parents will then assist their little ones on a giant circuit around the gym. The circuit will be split into various sections. For example, a section of floor may focus on basic handstand progressions. Independent classes are very similar. Sessions involve a warm up, stretching, then gymnastic activity. In our  independent classes, parent's do not come into the gym. This is recommended by British Gymnastics for safeguarding purposes, plus we have found that children are often distracted by people watching, so we encourage you to use our waiting room upstairs which has a viewing window. If your child has any particular concerns please speak with the Coach.

Where do I drop off and collect my child?

As you enter the gym, you will need to go straight upstairs, along the back corridor and enter the gym via the drop off zone. At the end of class, gymnasts will exit the gym via the same drop off zone. The next class will enter the gym to allow more space, then one at a time gymnasts will be handed over to parents. Gymnasts will not be allowed to go until the coach in charge of dismissal can see a parent. No child will be left unattended; if you do not arrive within 15 minutes of the end of the session we will try to contact you on the details provided on your Love admin account.

Can I drop my child off for class and leave the site?

Parents must come into the gym for baby gym, preschool open play and preschool classes. We recommend parents stay for little Stars classes (ages 4-5 years) but can leave the site if they feel their child is settled in. For all other classes where children are aged between 5 & 16, parents may leave the premises as long as children are dropped off and picked up in the designated zone at the correct time. The coaches at J Star Gymnastics make a concerted effort to prevent unauthorised persons from entering the premises. We are not equipped to supervise children before or after classes. Thank you to help facilitate the safety of all children in our care.

How much are the classes?

Please see the information tab for class prices and class descriptions.

What is the Annual Club Membership for?

There is an annual club membership administration fee of £5 per child, which helps to pay for the running costs of the club such as supporting our coaches and judges with their education, general administration, replacing equipment and general maintenance. This fee is due when joining the club for the first time, then every September along with BG Membership. Both membership years run from October 1st to September 30th.

Is there adequate on site parking?

We have a adequate parking on site for our members. Please ensure you park in front of our units only in the designated bays or in the space on the raised ramp bit just above the car park. We also have parking round the side of our unit (the far end of the whole building) and access to an over car park at the other end (as you approach building). Please park considerately and take care when walking to and from the club.

Child Protection?

All our coaches are safe guard trained, as set out in BG policies. If you have any queries/problems regarding child protection you can either speak to the club Welfare Officer, Becky Burnand or our head coach Justine Lawrence.

What qualifications do our Coaches / Assistants have?

Our coaches are always at least Level 1 British Gymnastics qualified. There is always a Level 2 on site and we have Level 3 coaches working some shifts. Our Trampoline Coach is currently a BG Level 2. We also run a Leadership Academy for students aged 14 years and above. Once enrolled into this programme, students can go on a number of courses and then progress to become coaching assistants. Coaching assistants generally have experience and enthusiasm in the sport and may be training towards their level 1 in British Gymnastics Coaching. You may see a coaching assistant coaching a small group of young children, under the supervision of a Level 1 or 2 coach. This will only happen if the assistant coach has done there Awards Scheme coaching award which enables them to coach skills on the proficiency awards.

All coaches, volunteers and anyone in contact with the children will have an enchanced DBS (previously CRB) check completed via the British Gymnastics Association.

Complaints?

If you have a complaint, please speak to Head Coach Justine. Alternatively you can email / message, direct on 07557133394 or through our face book page. If you feel you have not had your complaint dealt with appropriately you can contact the British Gymnastics Association.  Please ask for a copy of our complaints policy.

How is J Star Gymnastics different from other local programs?

At J Star gymnastics, not only do our qualified staff have decades of experience in teaching children ages 8 weeks to adult EVERY student is important and special to us. We are committed to helping every student achieve his/her personal goals and help him/her to be their very best in a caring, supportive and positive environment.

Why are the classes divided by ages?

Years of study and research has shown that children develop differently, but there are certain milestones that are specific to each year of growth and development. J Star Gymnastics prides itself on providing a developmentally specific program based on the ages of our participants. Attempts to “fast track” preschoolers have negative implications to your child, the other members of the class and the instructors. Our goal is to provide an environment that is fun, supportive, and most importantly, encourages a love of learning.

What if I miss a class?

It is always best to attend your regularly scheduled class. Just like most clubs, your termly fee’s pay for a class spot, regardless of attendance. Unfortunately as we adhere to strict ratio’s, we are unable to offer make up classes.
